Good Taste – the Sheffield Fair Trade Shop

We opened in March 2015, selling a wide range of Fairtrade food, greetings cards, jewellery, gifts, toys, and homeware. We are a not for profit business, assisted by volunteers and our mission is twofold.

Firstly, to provide a market for high-quality fair trade goods which demonstrate the talent and ingenuity of the producers, and enable them to earn a living and provide for their families. Secondly, our profits go to support ‘TASTE’, a charity working in Nigeria to provide clean drinking water and sanitation facilities to the local people.

Our Impact

We are a not-for-profit, independent, Fair Trade shop based in Sheffield

We source our Fair Trade products from more than 30 countries across the globe. Fair Trade empowers artisan craftspeople and farmers to raise their living standards above the poverty line.

Fairtrade achieves this by paying a fair wage for their work and through the Fairtrade Premium, which enables the community to support local projects such as health centers and schools.

TASTE Charity

TASTE registered as a charity in the U.K. on September 7 1999, to encourage the spread of appropriate and sustainable technology in Nigeria. Set up by Ben Udejiofo, a trustee with first hand experience of the hardship being suffered by ordinary Nigerians through the under-utilisation of both human and mineral resources

Year One – £5000

This project helped a village community in the Plateau State of Nigeria, which is a very militant area. The villagers had had no access to clean water for the last 7 years since their borehole broke down. Because of the dangers of ambush, no drilling company was willing to go into the village to repair it. A drilling company that did go in to drill a borehole had to abandon the work due to threats of violence from the Militants.
